Sustainable Initiatives (Dear Humans, You’re Actually Kind of Amazing Sometimes)
Well, well, well... would you look at you! You're rescuing your planet! I must admit—I didn’t see this coming. For a while there, I was starting to think you were all in a competition to see who could fill me with the most carbon before lunch.
But lately, I've felt the tiniest shift in the winds. A sprouting seed where there was once concrete. And I just wanted to say, thank you. I feel it.
This post is not about doom or disaster (shocking, I know). It’s a love letter to your better side—the side that recycles, rewilds, restores, and refuses to give up. So let me take a break from the rants and raise a patch of wildflowers in your honor.
So, what are some of the amazing things you guys have done for me?
Notpla-
Notpla is a London based sustainable packaging company. The company fights against the use of single-use plastic, by creating biodegradable packaging from seaweed. Notpla's mission is to "make packaging disappear" by offering eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics.
Notplas packaging is a 100 percent biodegradable, it's home-compostable within 4–6 weeks—comparable to a fruit peel. Seaweed grows quickly, and needs no freshwater, land, or fertilizers. It sequesters carbon and deacidifies the ocean making it the ideal material.
Their innovations include-
. Ooho- Edible, water-based capsules for beverages and sauces
. Notpla coating- A seaweed-based lining for takeaway boxes, replacing plastic and PFAS.
. Notpla paper- A paper alternative made with 30% seaweed, reducing reliance on wood pulp.
. Soluble sachets- Packaging for products like laundry detergent that dissolves in water.
Releaf Paper-
Releaf Paper is an international innovative company that produces paper from fallen leaves. Fallen leaves serve as a precious resource as they are available in large quantities, they were considered bio-waste until Releaf paper decided to give them a purpose. They not only produce paper from fallen leaves, but also supply brands with their own sustainable packaging made from Releaf Paper. They produce paper from plant wastes with the least possible impact on the environment. The paper is renewable, forest-friendly, recyclable, and CO2 saving.
FabBRICK-
Did you know that you have enough clothes to clothe the next 6 generations?
FabBRICK is a Paris-bases design studio that uses discarded fabric and textiles to create eco-friendly bricks for interior design and furniture applications. Each brick incorporates the equivalent of two to four recycled T-shirts, and the colours are derived from the original fabrics without additional dyes, making it all the more sustainable.
FabBRICK's products can be used as
- Partition walls
- Wall cladding
- Furniture
- Other decorative elements
This company gives a sustainable new life to the colossal amount of textile waste on me.
Clean The World's recycling operations-
Every year, it has been estimated that the hospitality industry generates 440B pounds of solid waste — much of it soap and bottled amenities. This company collects soap from 8,000 hotels worldwide. Clean The World's recycling operations centers process over 40,000 lbs. of soap wastes each month, into new reusable soaps. The soaps are sorted, refined, and sanitized before being compressed into new bars.
Iro Iro-
Iro Iro is a Jaipur-based sustainable fashion brand, that specializes in upcycling industrial textile waste into handcrafted garments, utilizing traditional Indian weaving techniques. By collaborating with rural artisans, Iro Iro has diverted over 15,000 kg of fabric scraps from landfills, saving approximately 250 tons
of CO₂ emissions. Their zero-waste, circular design approach is a huge step in protecting and rescuing me.
These are only a few of the initiatives that are doing their best to preserve and safeguard their mother land (me). I hope to see many more creative and sustainable projects like this in the future.
I feel every single effort to protect, and I truly appreciate it.
