The True Cost of Convenience

Image
It's me, planet earth here again.  I don’t usually speak up—I’m more of a “let the tectonic plates do the talking” kind of girl. But lately, I’ve got something stuck in my throat. It’s plastic. We need to talk about convenience. I know you love things quick, easy, and wrapped in plastic. But can we talk about what it’s doing to my lungs, my oceans, and, well…my whole system? Your quick fixes cause long-term scars for me. I get it. Life moves fast. You want your burger in five minutes, your groceries delivered at your doorstep, and your clothes to arrive before the weekend party. But every time you swipe for speed, I slow down a little. Let me break it down. Your convenience comes with a price that I can't afford.  That cheeseburger? It cost me ancient forests cleared for cattle, methane in my atmosphere, and oceans overfished for fries. Not to mention the mountain of wrappers you left behind. Beef is a fast-food staple—and cattle ranching is one of the leadin...

Fashioned for Extinction

Image
It's me again -- planet earth.  Still spinning, still breathing (barely), and still covered in crop tops. I survived mass extinctions, drifting continents and the dinosaurs' dramatic exit -- but now I'm drowning in denim. You humans and your numerous clothes have only added to my existing difficulties.  Don’t get me wrong — I love creativity. I’ve seen your cave paintings. I’ve hosted your renaissance. I even tolerated shoulder pads. But somewhere between 'outfit of the day' and 'new clothes drop' fashion stopped being an artform and became a full-blown crisis.  Let's be clear, although the term fast fashion refers to " the quick turnover of fashion trends and the move   towards cheap, mass-produced clothing   - with new lines constantly released " which sounds convenient for low to middle income consumers influenced by trends and 'hauls', the impact it causes is far from convenient.  Fast fashion isn't only about cute clothes at ...

Biodiversity: The OG Life Hack We Keep Ignoring

Image
Biodiversity isn't just about saving pandas and hugging trees (although pandas and trees are pretty great). It is our earths very own safety net, it safe-guards our survival on this planet. That's just how important it is...  So, what exactly is biodiversity anyway? Biodiversity is a term that represents the total variety of all life on earth. Thousands of world habitats, millions of different species, billions of different individuals and trillions of different characteristics they possess is all summed up into one term. Biodiversity is built on three intertwined features-- ecosystem diversity, species diversity and genetic diversity. The more the intertwining between these features, the denser and more resilient life on earth becomes. When life is at its most varied and biodiverse can we hope to thrive.  Let's look at the Amazon rainforest, it is one of the most biodiverse regions on our planet, because of its complex ecosystems, huge mix of species and the genetic variet...

Giving Earth a Voice: Why We Must Listen

Image
I often wonder--if the earth could speak, what would she say? Would she whisper gently , like a soft puff of air , or would she bellow out in floods and wildfires, desperately hoping for someone to hear her out? Only for me to realise that she has been speaking all along. We just haven't been listening closely enough. This blog is my way of giving our earth a voice.   I'm not here because I have all the answers , but because I have too many questions that need answering. Why are our forests vanishing? Why are our oceans struggling to survive? Why are animals we used to see everyday ending up in history books? The earth is crying out for help , but for some reason it seems like we all have got noise cancelling headphones on. I think it's time we take off those headphones and tune in.  Here, I will share the earth's stories honestly-- from the pollution in our cities to the melting glaciers in the mountains. I'm also going to share how we can help stop the disasters st...
